What Is Microdermabrasion?

If your skin feels rough when you touch your face, you may have a buildup of dead and damaged skin cells, which can make your complexion appear dull and discolored. At Sisram Wellness Center in Chicago, IL, our team performs microdermabrasion procedures using DiamondGlow®, a noninvasive, gentle skin resurfacing facial. Effective and fast, DiamondGlow treatments remove the outer layer of damaged skin for a healthier and brighter complexion. DiamondGlow may be performed as a standalone service or paired with other treatments for even more dramatic results. During your initial consultation, our team will create a unique treatment plan that works to achieve your aesthetic goals according to your unique skin type and tone.

How Is Microdermabrasion Performed?

Microdermabrasion with DiamondGlow is performed in our office following a thorough consultation and skin assessment. During the treatment, you will be lying down in a treatment chair so that you can relax and enjoy the treatment. Your face will be cleaned to remove makeup and debris prior to treatment. Next, the DiamondGlow handpiece will be guided along your skin, gently cleansing, exfoliating, and removing dead skin. Although the process feels odd, it is not considered uncomfortable, and many clients remark that it is relaxing. Once the treatment is complete, the skin will be cleaned one final time to remove any remaining product or dead skin before a moisturizer, carefully selected for your skin type, is massaged into the skin.

I tried the Diamond Peel Facial just before the long holiday weekend. I pinked up a little because I asked them to go very aggressive with this treatment which blasts high speed mildly abrasive particles along the surface to shrink pores and smooth rhytids. The treatment ended with a serum infusion that left my skin glowing - this is way smoother than any microderm. Suzanna has an amazing team. Super convenient for me because I work in Fulton Market. Maybe next time I'll try one of their laser treatments. Highly recommend.

Cannot say enough about Angie! I've been going to Angie for Dermaplaning, Microderm, and peels for years and she is a true professional - knowledgeable (ask her ANYTHING about skincare - you will be amazed!) and highly skilled. My skin always looks amazing after a visit. Love the beautiful new space in W. Loop too.

About Us
Should I get microdermabrasion or a chemical peel?

Depending on your concerns and goals, a skin care technician at our med spa in Chicago, IL will help you determine if microdermabrasion or a chemical peel is the best treatment for you. In general, microdermabrasion clears away the top layer of dead and damaged skin cells to make your complexion look smoother and healthier. You can get these same results from a light chemical peel. A stronger chemical peel is better if your concerns are below the surface skin layers. The amount of time you want to spend in recovery might also influence which procedure you want since microdermabrasion requires minimal downtime.

How often should I get microdermabrasion treatments?

Initially, you may need 5 – 12 microdermabrasion sessions scheduled about 2 – 4 weeks apart to rejuvenate your complexion. After that, you should schedule appointments every 4 – 8 weeks to maintain your skin's health. During your consultation, your technician in Chicago, IL will develop a plan with suggestions specific to your goals that details when you need to schedule appointments.

How should I care for my skin after a microdermabrasion treatment?

Following your microdermabrasion treatment, you should limit strenuous activity for at least 24 hours to give your skin time to rest. You should avoid UV rays (tanning beds and natural sunlight) and shield your face with sunscreen. To limit redness and swelling following the procedure, your practitioner at our med spa might recommend a serum or other skin product.
